By George you've got it....

I FINALLY went to the doctor yesterday.
For those who don't know I have hypothyroidism.
Basically
it is "almost impossible" to lose weight
UNLESS
you go to a doctor who actually CARES enough to really look at your levels and gets you on the right medicine
Well at least we hope so..

until then I will still keep off the sugar and working out.

Sure is frustrating though...
eating 1200 calories a day
working out 2 hours a day
and gaining weight.

Duh

Not sure why it took me FOREVER to figure it out
When you lift weights as part of your work outs
AND you run you become... wait for it....
STRONGER
Which makes you
RUN LONGER

Duh L

Usually I have to fail at something
A LOT
before I figure it out.
While do you think it took me a while to find T?

FAIL

I was doing so well until this dang cookies landed on my desk
Yes, it is the size of a take out box
I had about three bites
Realized it was good
and stopped

but then took a bite of sees candy
just one, I promise.

It's ok...
always tomorrow!

SUGAR

So here I am, week 2 of no sugar
I have lost 4 pounds
Hate to admit this,
I think I was (am) an addict
I had headaches
I was moody
and I was TIRED

A little of that has past now
I do feel better when I run and have gotten less stomach aches
But during the holidays it is SO hard!!!

Next comes less carbs--- oh my!

Mondays

Mondays are always full of hope...

So today I have started my eating healthy plan.

I am doing 1500 Calories a day
That may seem like a lot, but with my height, weight and my work out time
it spit that number out :)

Which means 5 meals of 300 calories.

It is harder than I thought-
Breakfast: Oatmeal (120 Calories, dang it)
Snack: Apple and PB (290 ish- check)
Lunch: Turkey with greek yogurt dip and grapefruit (no idea on the calories on that)
Post to come on that dip... AMAZING
Snack: Almonds (200 ish, I could not eat the whole 300 calorie worth)
and I passed on the muffin given during my class.... bonus!!

Now off to an engligh muffin for a power snack then ZUMBA AND BODY PUMP.

I still can not figure it out why I am doing this again:)

Body Pump

I did it.
I survived Body Pump.
Not just that though,
I did zumba right before.

This was the end result.

What I liked about the class:
You work each body part
for one song, which means 3 minutes or so.
Which means there is an end in sight.
You work your back,
which I rarely work out in the gym.
The instructor was a "normal" looking girl,
with the strength of an ox.

What I didn't like:
We didn't stretch as long as I would have liked after the class.
She was a "little" bit degrading in her "pump up" comments.
Maybe that is why I love ZUMBA,
they make you feel awesome afterwards!

Pump you up!

I swear if it has been offered at a gym
I have tried it
EXCEPT
BODY PUMP
Why?
It scares me!
You have the dumbells
the steps
a mat
and free weights.
Um.. terrifying.
I love me some zumba and pilates
I might need some encouragement to try this one.

Thorn in my side

Or at least that is what it feels like.
Do any of you get those side aches while you run.

This has been happening to me EVERYTIME I run lately.
1 mile-5 miles or 10 miles doesn't matter.

Here is what the military has to say about this...
Pretty legit right?

Do not Run on a full stomach
I am actually guilty of this.. well, not FULL but pretty much there.
I work out at night after work, which means after I make T (the hubby a nutritious dinner)

Decrease Pace and Breathe Deeply
Don't have to tell me twice to slow down :)
I think I naturally do it.. constantly

Pre- Stretch with Side Torso Twists
I will try this

Perform Lower Back and Ab Exercises
I feel like this is the solution to a lot of problem.
Core strength people

I am going to try ALL these and let you know next week!

But I bet my new shoes will help me after Christmas... right?
Right.

25 years old

When you turn 25 I swear your body plays a trick on you... mine did at least. My hips turned out and my bum grew. It is like my body is mad at me because I have not birthed children yet so it is going to make me look like I have.

Thanks goodness running has make my bum shrink and let me fit into some pants I have not been able to wear for 8 months.

Also check out hungry runner girl's giveaway... nice running shoes make all the difference.

back on the train

I did it! I finally ran again. Today I felt unstoppable until my left started hurting, but I feel accomplished. I am THINKING of doing a marathon (yeah, did I just say that!?) next June. We will see.

I have returned!!

2 weeks ago I found out I had staff infection
ew.
I was quite traumatized and couldn't really work out because the
incision would break open and blood would come rushing out
( ok maybe trickle out)
Today I finally got back to the gym to really work out

45 minutes of cardio
weights: arms, abs and legs

Welcome back me!

Escalante 2009

Uintas 2008--my first backpacking trip ever..it was definitely quite the experience. I am surprised I ever went on another trip. It consisted of hiking mostly through rain and hail and then sleeping in a wet sleeping back. it was absolutely lovely:)...no but really..it was.

Uintas 2008

Here are a few family reunion hikes..

Park City 2011
Bear Lake 2009

Lake Tahoe 2008

Every year at our family reunions..we do a hike with all 50+ of us. They have a sort of reputation..."oh don't worry guys its only half a mile"..5 miles later and were still aren't half way to the arch. Nevertheless..we all still enjoy them! I have quite a few special memories from these infamous hikes.

Along with our family hikes, we do a backpacking trip every summer with whoever wants to go. Here are some from the past. This started my wanting to be an "organic granola girl" phase. Gotta love it!!:)

Oh and I apologize for the messy post..I'm still getting used to the blogging world.

Bike :)

The sweating sisters took a bike ride together this past weekend! The ride was out at Lake Mead, Nevada with the whole family. It took the route of old train tunnels all the way to the Hoover Dam. In total, the ride was about 9 miles.

There is me! I look bald here :)

It was SUPER windy so even though the way back was mostly downhill, it took a lot of effort because it was against the wind. Great workout though and it was so fun being with everyone.

Finallyy!!

Well I am done with track! Wooooohoooo!!
Don't get me wrong i love it..i just love my afternoon naps and watching Ellen even more:)
I had regionals exactly one week ago and you will never guess what happened...
yes i fell. on the last hurdle. at the regional meet.
What can i say..i went out with a bang!:)
I couldn't help but laugh at myself because it such a typical "Mads" thing to do.

But here is a picture of the damage...not gonna lie..i felt perretty dang cool.
(This is actually a picture of the first time i fell..but they were basically the same)

Despite the falls..this was by far my favorite year of hurdling. I met some amazing people and it was just a blast.

Love these girls

the dreaded 300 hurdles

So this was freshmen year..but i just really like the picture:)

So now that track is done..i am getting ready for my next adventure.. The Grand Canyon.

In exactly one week from Friday I am hiking the Grand Canyon from rim to rim..and yes. I am freaking out. It is exactly 23.5 miles and I have no idea what I am getting myself into. All the advice I have is from C who hiked it four years ago...

heres C:

"It was the hardest thing I have ever done in my life."

Wish me Luck!:)

Running running.....

This past Monday, I went out and did the 6.5 miles! I decided that the gym doesn't work for me for these longer runs. My arms get cramped from holding them up so that they don't hit the machine and it just gets way too hot.

This past Monday, the weather was in the 80's but there was a little breeze, so it actually felt really nice! I did a little loop that consisted of running by my church and my favorite grocery store. It included a hill, but of course I made sure that was in the first half rather than the second half!

And the miracle of this run was that I didn't have any music with me! I used my itouch so I could see how far I was going (used the nike hook-up), but my itouch doesn't have any music. It surprised me that I was able to run with just a song in my head! haha.

I ran at a REALLY slow pace though (that might also be due to the lack of no music and stopping for stoplights). I'm not going to worry about it for now, I am just going to try to increase my endurance.

Power of motivation

Last week was a bit busier, and I did not feel like doing my 6 miles, so I ran 4 last week and saved the 6 miles for today.....(but in my mind, I would have been pleased with 5 or 5.5.... ha).

So, this afternoon, I got ready to do my weekly "long" run. As I was leaving the apartment, I said goodbye to B-ran and I told him I was attempting to run 6 miles today. This is further than I have ever gone (especially in one stretch). I sounded very unsure in my proclamations of running.... so Brandon would not let me leave until I made him sure that I could do it and that I wanted to do it!

So I just did it!

Man, so much of it is a mental game. I felt stomach-sick after 2 miles and I thought that the rest was going to be miserable, but it got better!

Once B-ran is done with finals, I am still planning on taking him on a run down at pacific beach along the boardwalk. I hear that it is 3.5 miles-- just x that by 2 and that could be my 7 mile run!

And a shout out to my cousin who just finished the Boston marathon! I am so proud of her. She is incredible.

clothes, clothes and more clothes

Everyone knows that when you get new running clothes you want to wear them more; therefore, you work out more... here are some of my picks.

Basic running tank top... no one likes a sweating shirt sleeve that hangs as you run.

If it were up to me I would bring fab into running, glitter tank top anyone?

skinnyrunnergirl.com makes these awesome shirts, yes, sometimes I do want to punch it in the face and anyone enjoying it around me.

Nike tempo shorts, hello... miracle... awesome.. amazing.

Need I say more than this... design. your. own.

Fun bras are needed, I don't care what you say.

Everyone needs a little polka dot

Anniversary Present

For our anniversary, B surprised me with a Nike shoe insert (and roses:)! Has anyone used this? I am excited.... it will track time, distance, pace, and calories-- out of all of these, right now I am just excited to see distance and time right now....

Super cool though, right?!

I want to take this to work with me at the hospital and see how far we walk during our shifts.
